EUROPEAN EDUCATIONAL AREA: OPPORTUNITY AND CHALLENGES FOR UKRAINE
Short description:
We, as a university with a 300-years history, are conscious of the responsibility for the reform process in Ukraine, and ready to be and we will be agents of change in the region. We are convinced that sustainable changes in society are impossible without a radical change of the educational system that still is very much Soviet. That`s why we need to instill European values to youth and shift the educational paradigm in Ukraine. However, reform of educational programs and courses is a major National priority in education (category A) for Ukraine. Therefore, the goal of the project “EUROPEAN EDUCATIONAL AREA: OPPORTUNITY AND CHALLENGES FOR UKRAINE” is to introduce the best educational practices of European countries and developing mechanisms for their implementation at our University, and as a long-term perspective in all universities of Ukraine. Our main know-how will be a section on innovative learning technologies (including ICT), as far as model of teaching (at schools and universities) is still based on the Soviet standards with strong accent on memorizing of the content. Another know-how will be a block “Project Management” dedicated to specificity of maintaining research and educational activity of students. This discipline is not new to Europe, but in our university it still has not been taught. The involved target groups are students, educators, teachers and policy makers.Among the expected results of the project are not only to develop guidelines, and share best practices for all audiences, but also to foster project proposals for cooperation with European universities in reforming educational programs. The main impact of the project, as we see it, is to raise a regional community awareness of the value of education and developing respect for teachers. Hence, we will overcome that mental point and realize the importance of education, self-development and self-studying, and therefore will have a sustainable impact on project beneficiaries.
