Urban Revitalization – an EU Experience for Ukraine

The aim of the Jean Monnet module is to conduct a Summer School “Urban Revitalization – an EU Experience for Ukraine” (EUREVIT) for students, teachers, local authorities, business and community to build knowledge on EU policy of urban renewal and sustainable development of the cities. The Summer School will provide its participants with new competencies and stimulate European Union studies and research in this area. There is a huge demand in Ukraine in creation a quality urban development policy, while the EU has considerable experience and good practices.The main objectives of the project are: developing and teaching an innovative course on the EU urban policy; improving the knowledge among students, young researchers, policy makers, society as large on the issues of the European integration; conducting research on the European urban development; acquiring practical skills by conducting workshops on best practices of EU countries in cities revitalization; promoting active EU citizenship and values.The main result of the school’s activity is the dissemination of educational information about economic processes in the field of European integration among the course participants and organization of research on the issues of the European integration based on the results of summer schools. A number of roundtables will be held to engage a wide range of professionals, theorists and practitioners, students, and local authorities to discuss and develop solutions in urban revitalization. The preparation of course materials in the form of a handbook, as well as the free access to the materials of roundtables, seminars, meetings will allow a wide range of stakeholders to get acquainted with EU urban development policy and will increase capabilities of the Ukrainian cities, based on the European standards. A final meeting will be held with universities of Ukraine to present the results of summer school and exchange of successful teaching practices in EU studies.
