Data protection is a key duty of all organizations, public and private, which handle personal data and personal sensitive data. As well as the legal and regulatory impact of a serious data protection incident, the harm to trust, brand, and reputation can be literally incalculable. The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came in to effect on Friday, 25th May 2018 thereby creating significant new obligations, as well as massively increased financial penalties – up to €20m or 4% of global turnover Despite the fact that the Rules are not part of Ukrainian legislation, its provisions may in some cases be binding on Ukrainian companies.Students of the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies (of Lviv Polytechnic National University are engaged in the development of programs and applications, which collecting and processing a personal data. Accordingly, IT-professionals must have knowledge of European practices in the processing of personal data, ethical and legislative aspects, in order to take into account, the requirements of current European legislation when developing such software products.The main aim of the project is to study EU legislation and practices of data protection, dissemination of information about the new European rules of work with personal data of the GDPR.The objectives of the project are as follows:• to promote excellence in teaching and research in the sphere of Data Protection in EU in general and implementation of GDPR in particular;• to improve the quality of professional information technology specialists, data scientists and business analytics training with a focus on the values of personal data protection rules, standards of EU and respect for human rights;• to equip students, graduates, stakeholders and the public at large with knowledge of Data Protection in EU, promote understanding and perception of EU values, encourage of their enforcing in national practice.
