Conference “Implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU: selected policies” within the project of the EU Erasmus+ Programme, Jean Monnet Actions (06.03.2024, online)
On March 6, 2024, the conference “Implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU: selected policies” was held.
The conference was organised by the Center of Excellence Jean Monnet “Western Ukrainian Research Center for European Studies” of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv as part of the implementation of the EU Erasmus+ Jean Monnet project “European Union Common Policies – Alignment Strategies for Ukraine” (EUCPASU) in cooperation with the EU Information Center of the university, the department of European and regional studies and the department of European law of the university.
About 150 academic staff and students joined the event during the day.
During the conference, opening speeches were made by Roman GLADYSHEVSKY, vice-rector for scientific work of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, professor, Petro KRAINIK, project manager of the National Erasmus+ office in Ukraine (EU funded project), Olena PAVLYUK, director of LLP “Lviv Bureau of European Integration”, Markiyan MALSKYI, dean of the Faculty of International Relations, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, professor, Oksana GOLOVKO-GAVRYSHEVA, head of the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence “Western Ukrainian Research Center for European Studies”, associate professor of the European Law Department of the University’s Faculty of International Relations. The speakers focused attention on the importance of this topic in the context of the realisation of Ukraine’s European integration aspirations on the way to full membership in the EU.
In particular, the project manager of the National Erasmus+ office in Ukraine (EU funded project) in his online speech noted the specifics of the project’s subject matter, spoke about the importance of ensuring the study and dissemination of the topic of European integration of Ukraine, about the social impact of the Jean Monnet project and cooperation with various stakeholders, about the synergy with other projects and the role of Jean Monnet projects in the European integration of Ukraine.
At the plenary session, among the speakers were Taras KACHKA, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Trade Representative of Ukraine, who spoke about the peculiarities of the negotiation process between Ukraine and the EU at the current stage and the challenges facing Ukraine; Roman PETROV, professor of the National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”, scientists, representatives of public authorities and other stakeholders.
During the event, the participants got acquainted with the issues of interaction between the legal system of Ukraine and the legal system of the EU in the context of the implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU and the fulfilment of the conditions for cooperation in the political and legal spheres at the current stage, good governance, policy formation and the external dimension of common EU policies, regarding ensuring sustainability in relations between Ukraine and the EU, etc.
