DiscoverEU Expands: Young People from Ukraine to Join the Initiative in 2027

The European Commission plans to expand the DiscoverEU initiative, enabling 18-year-olds from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, and Ukraine to participate from 2027.

Eligible young people will be able to apply for a travel pass and explore Europe, primarily by rail and other sustainable means of transport, including coaches and ferries. The initiative offers participants an opportunity to discover Europe’s diverse cultures, languages, and communities while gaining valuable experience, building confidence, and creating lasting international friendships.

Sustainability remains at the core of DiscoverEU. By encouraging rail travel and other environmentally friendly transport options, the initiative promotes greener mobility and supports more sustainable travel choices.

The extension of DiscoverEU to six new partner countries marks an important step towards strengthening European connections, solidarity, and mutual understanding among the next generation.
