II International Jean Monnet Autumn School on Regulation of the use of food additives: implementation of European approaches and II International scientific-practical conference on Problems and practical approaches to the production and regulation of the use of food additives in the European Union countries and in Ukraine within the Erasmus+ project (24-25.10.2023, online)
On 24-25 October 2023 the II International Jean Monnet Autumn School on Regulation of the use of food additives: implementation of European approaches and II International scientific-practical conference on Problems and practical approaches to the production and regulation of the use of food additives in the European Union countries and in Ukraine within the Erasmus+ project held at the National University of Food Technologies. The event took place within the framework of the European Union Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Programme project “Modules”.
The School and Conference were organized by the project team of the National University of Food Technologies with the participation of Ilona MICEIKIENĖ, adviser to a member of the Lithuanian Seimas for Education and Social Issues (Lithuania), with the support of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Scientific Research and Training Center for Standardization, Certification and Quality Problems, with the participation of representatives of companies producing food products and food additives.
More than 300 participants joined the events, among whom were scientists from universities, research institutes, teachers of colleges, professional lyceums and institutes of postgraduate education, Bachelor’s, Master’s, Ph.D. students, students of lyceums, representatives of companies that produce food products and food additives and distributors. Representatives from 19 universities, 2 institutions of postgraduate education, 3 colleges and 4 lyceums of Ukraine joined the event.
On behalf of the National Erasmus+ office in Ukraine (EU funded project), the participants were greeted by Petro KRAINIK, Jean Monnet project manager. In his speech, the representative of the NEO in Ukraine spoke about the importance of the dissemination of European studies in Ukraine, the experience and role of the EU in the field of project implementation, about cooperation between universities, the effective communication with the project’s target groups, about the possibilities of the EU Erasmus+ Programme and participation in the Programme’s calls for proposals.
During the events, presentations were made by Anna HRYSHCHENKO, Associate Professor of Department of Bakery and Confectionery Goods Technologies, National University of Food Technologies (NUFT); Tatiana SKAPA, Head of the Department for the Prevention of Non-Infectious Diseases and Drug Trafficking of the Department of Public Health of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine; Svitlana KOKHAN, Head of the Sector of the Research Department of Food Standardization of the Research Institute of Standardization of the State Enterprise “UkrSRTC”; Serhii KOLESNYK, researcher, Swiss Centre for Applied Human Toxicology, University of Basel; Ivan ZORENKO, head of industrial sales department BEST WAY FOODS; Volodymyr POLISHCHUK, leading process engineer at HR.Hansen LLC (Ukraine); Tetiana LEBEDENKO, Head of the Department of Hotel and Restaurant Business Odessa National University of Technology; Nadiia NEPOKRYTOVA, sales manager of Stern Ingredients Ukraine LLC; Olha PISARETS, process engineer, Interstarch Ukraine LLC; Iryna BOYKO, Associate Professor of the Department of Marketing (NUFT); Mariia POLSKYKH, commercial director of “Pastry Chef” LLC; Tetyana VASYLCHENKO, Head of the technological laboratory of production units 7, 8 of “KYIV KHLIB” LLC; Olena BILYK, Professor, Department of Bakery and Confectionery Goods Technologies (NUFT). During the conference, reports on the results of scientific research were presented by undergraduates and graduate students.
The speakers focused on such important issues as: the global market of food additives, regulation of the use of food additives and harmonization of European regulations, regulation of imports in Lithuania, draft orders of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine on the safety of food additives, flavors and enzymes, National standards in the production and use of food additives , the use of artificial intelligence to assess the risks of chemicals, documentation for the import of food additives into Ukraine. Some of the reports dealt with practical issues of using high-quality food additives produced in the EU, namely coagulants and enzymes in the dairy industry, enzymes in the technology of bread, confectionery and pasta, cocoa butter-based dyes in the confectionery industry, and the use of additives in HoReCa institutions.
During the events, participants learned about the experience of implementing the Jean Monnet project at the National University of Food Technologies and gained new knowledge in the field of regulating the use of food additives in the EU and Ukraine.
