Participation within EAIE Conference and presentation on Erasmus+ in Ukraine (13-16.09.2022, Barcelona)
On 13-16 September 2022, the National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine participated in European Association for International Education International Conference, joining around 6300 participants from more than 90 countries. The 2022 programme themed ‘The future in full colour’, touched on current topics in international higher education such as virtual exchange, the European Universities Initiative, and the repercussions of the war in Ukraine. Keynote speakers were Yalda Hakim and Jimmy Nelson providing powerful speeches to inspire and motivate participants for cooperation and collaboration.
During the event, the Higher Education Sphere of Ukraine was awarded the “EAIE-2022” award in the “Vision and Leadership” category, received by the Ministry of Education and Culture on behalf of higher education institutions of Ukraine.
At the “EAIE” conference, Ukraine was presented by: the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine,Ukrainian State Center for International Education”, the Network of Managers of Education and Science of Ukraine, the National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine, the International Office of the Leibniz University in Hanover , Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Poltava State Agrarian University, Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University, National University «Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic».
Ukrainian stand area out of 213 stands was visited by over 500 representatives from universities, research institutions and companies providing educational services.
Within the framework of huge number of panels of the Conference, session “What’s new in Ukraine” devoted to an overview of the current situation and latest news in the field of HE, science and innovation in Ukraine, challenges and needs of relocated universities, the impact of war at individual and institutional levels, and opportunities for international cooperation.
During the session about education and research during the war, Ukrainian speakers provided the following presentations:
- “International education in Ukraine: continuation despite adversity”, Olena SHAPOVALOVA, Head of Ukrainian State Center of International Education;
- “Science and innovation: Effective interaction and search for solutions during the war in Ukraine and United24Presidents’ of Ukraine initiative”, Oksana KRUKEVYCH, Head of the Expert Group of Science and Innovation directorate of the MoESU;
- “Relocated universities: challenges and opportunities for capacity building and national&international networks within EU Erasmus+ Programme”, Inna SEMENENKO, Head of the Resource Center for Sustainable Development of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University.
Svitlana SHYTIKOVA, NEO – Ukraine Coordinator, joined the session about Ukraine and highlighted specifics of cooperation with Ukraine during the war within the EU Erasmus+ Programme.
Ukrainian stand attracted attention of the Minister of Research and Universities of Catalonia, Gemma Geis Carreras. During the meeting, the Minister emphasized the efforts of Catalan universities hosting students and researchers displaced by the war in Ukraine and streassed the importance of establishing new cooperations with the Ukrainian HE and research sector.
Also, the Consul General of Ukraine in Barcelona, Artem Vorobyov, visited the stand and discussed the current situation in the field of higher education and science in Ukraine with main focus on current challenges and needs.
At the end, the Ukrainian delegation met with the International Department of Research and Universities of the Ministry of Catalonia and representatives of 11 universities. Based on the results of the meeting, a road map for further cooperation was formed and the next steps regarding the interaction of ministries and universities were outlined.
