Round table “Analysis of the EU Nitrates Directive implementation (1991-2026): achievements, shortcomings and challenges for Ukraine” within the framework of the EU Erasmus+ project (09.06.2026, online/offline)

On June 9, 2026, the National University of Life Resources and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine conducted a Roundtable “Analysis of the EU Nitrates Directive implementation (1991-2026): achievements, shortcomings and challenges for Ukraine” within the framework of the EU Erasmus+ Program, Jean Monnet project “Nitrate Pollution Prevention for Health Environment: European Experience of the Nitrate Directive Implementation for a Ukrainian Circular Economy”.

The roundtable was organized by the Department of Analytical and Bioinorganic Chemistry and Water Quality of the university.

The event was attended by more than 40 online participants – researchers, teachers, bachelors, masters, postgraduates, doctoral students, representatives of public organizations and other institutions, as well as representatives of foreign institutions. Representatives of the university also participated in the event in offline format.

During the event, the participants were welcomed by Oleksandr LABENKO, Vice-Rector of the University for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and International Activities.

Petro KRAINIK, Project Manager of the National Erasmus+ Office – Ukraine (EU funded project), in his speech spoke about the activity of Ukrainian higher education institutions in educational projects of the EU Erasmus+ Program, in particular in the Jean Monnet Actions, and also focused the attention of the Round Table participants on the issues of green transformation as one of the key priorities of the EU Erasmus+ Program, the features of the implementation of project activities under martial law in Ukraine, communication with stakeholders and ensuring synergy and inter-project cooperation.

The event discussed the European experience of implementing the Nitrates Directive (91/676/EEC) and developing a roadmap for its effective implementation in Ukraine; analysis of mechanisms for monitoring water bodies, identifying areas vulnerable to nitrate pollution, promoting best agricultural practices to protect the environment and develop a circular economy.
