European Commission Releases New Guidelines to Support Digital Education
The European Commission has published four new sets of guidelines designed to help teachers and educators navigate the digital transformation of education and effectively integrate digital technologies into teaching and learning.
The new guidelines focus on key areas of digital education:
- ethical use of artificial intelligence and data in education;
- tackling disinformation and promoting digital literacy;
- teaching informatics;
- selecting high-quality digital education content.
The documents provide practical tools, classroom examples, quality criteria, and updated definitions related to digital education. They are intended to support primary and secondary school teachers regardless of their level of digital expertise.
Special attention is given to generative AI, digital safety, critical thinking, and the responsible use of technologies in schools. The guidelines also address emerging challenges related to disinformation and the rapid development of AI tools.
The initiative is part of the Digital Education Action Plan (2021–2027), which aims to support the digital transformation of education systems across Europe.
