Participation in the Congress of the Ukrainian European Studies Association 2023 “EU membership of Ukraine and democracy promotion” (26-27.10.2023, online)

On October 26-27 the annual Congress of the Ukrainian European Studies Association took place, which was devoted to the EU membership of Ukraine and democracy promotion. The Congress was organized by the UESA with the support of Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine. During the Congress the special attention was paid to practices of the implementation of international projects under the programmes Erasmus+ (Jean Monnet, institutional capacity building CBHE) and Horizon Europe.

Over 70 participants from different places of Ukraine: Kyiv, Lviv, Lutsk, Uzhgorod, Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy, Chernihiv and Dnipro joined the event.

The welcome address was delivered by Svitlana SHYTIKOVA (Project Coordinator of the National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine) and Oksana HOLOVKO-HAVRYSHEVA (President of the Ukrainian European Studies Association). Speakers focused on such actual topics as the EU Membership of Ukraine (legal and political aspects), contemporary challenges for in democracy research and for the democratization processes, trends and developments in the EU Regional and Cohesion Policies, the cooperation between universities and communities, impact of European projects and EU standards on quality assurance.

Petro KRAINIK (Project Manager of the Jean Monnet programme of the National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine) stressed on the peculiarities of the Jean Monnet project realization during the wartime.  The session speakers Maksym KOLISNYK (Kharkiv National University of Radioelectronics), Andriy BOIIAR (Lesya Ukrayinka Volyn National University), Tetyana KOMAROVA (Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University) and Yaryna TURCHYN (National University «Lviv Polytechnic»).

In the course of the event participants have got acquainted with legal mechanism of the accession to the EU and challenges for Ukraine on its road to the full EU membership, as well as were informed about opportunities for Ukrainian scholars during the war, the transborder cooperation programs and discussed practices of gender audit for HEIs and forming gender equality plans.
