Round Table “Development of sustainable transport in the cities of Ukraine: the impact of the war and prospects” (01.03.2024, online)
On March 1, 2024, the Round Table “Development of sustainable transport in the cities of Ukraine: the impact of the war and prospects” was held online on the Zoom platform. The event was organized by the Department of Transport Systems and Logistics of O.M. Beketov National University of Urban Economy in Kharkiv
(O.M. Beketov NUUEKh) as part of the implementation of the European Union Erasmus+ Programme project of the Jean Monnet Module “Sustainable Urban Transport Policy in Europe”.
The event was attended by more than 40 participants from 8 cities of Ukraine (Kharkiv, Kyiv, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Lviv, Lutsk, Sumy, Bila Tserkva): scientists, teachers, graduate students, students, and other interested persons.
Dmytro ROSLAVTSEV, associate professor of the Department of Transport Systems and Logistics, moderated the event.
In a welcome speech, Yevhen KUSH, Head of the Department of Transport Systems and Logistics,
O.M. Beketov NUUEKh, provided information about the Department, emphasised the importance and influence of international activities and Jean Monnet’s projects on the training of future specialists and the development of educational programmes. He also added that knowledge in the field of sustainable mobility is important for the further reconstruction of Ukrainian cities.
During the event, participants of the advanced training course “Transport policy of the European Union. The current state and prospects of implementation in Ukraine” made presentations: Olga KUNYTSKA, Iryna SUVOROVA (National Transport University); Svitlana SMERICHEVSKA, Lidia SAVCHENKO (National Aviation University); Maryana VASYLCHENKO, Alla GLEBOVA (National University “Poltava Polytechnic named after Yury Kondratyuk”); Nadiya SOKOLOVA, Ganna SAMCHUK (O.M. Beketov NUUEKh). Ruslana KOLODNYTSKA (Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University) also gave a speech.
The speakers focused on such topical issues as: the analysis of the implementation practices of sustainable transport policies in the cities of the European Union and the prospects for implementation in Ukraine during recovery.

During the event, the participants of the Round Table got acquainted with the experience of realisation and implementing sustainable transport policies in cities, actively participated in discussions and shared their experiences and knowledge.
As a result of the attended event, the participants gained knowledge about the policy of sustainable transport in the European Union and learned about the directions of development and prospects for the restoration of the urban transport system in Ukraine.

The overall goal of the module is to raise awareness of the EU’s sustainable urban transport policy and spread a new approach to mobility through education and dissemination of project results.
The main objectives of the project are creation of educational content for students regarding the policy of sustainable urban transport in the EU, development of a distance course, creation of a certificate programme for students and other interested persons, conducting activities to increase interest in the common transport policy of the EU, establishing an inter-university network in the new approach of the EU to mobility.
