Information Session “European Cooperation through Erasmus+: Projects, Mobility, Partnerships” as Part of the National Forum “Research Project Manager: From Grant to Impact” (21-22.05.2026, Lviv)

On 21–22 May 2026, the team from the National Erasmus+ Office – Ukraine participated in the National Forum “Research Project Manager: From Grant to Impact”, held in Lviv, which brought together representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, higher education institutions, research organisations, research managers, and experts in the fields of science, innovation, and international cooperation.

The forum addressed issues related to research funding, state attestation of research institutions, the development of research infrastructure, Ukraine’s integration into the European Research Area, participation in European Union programmes, support for early-career researchers, and strengthening cooperation between science, education, business, and government. Particular attention was paid to instruments for the development of science in Ukraine, new approaches to research funding, international mobility, and support for innovation.

The forum served as a platform for discussing contemporary approaches to research project management and the development of the research project manager profession in Ukraine. The programme covered research funding, the functioning of research infrastructure, support for early-career researchers, the development of innovation, and Ukraine’s integration into the European Research Area. Special attention was devoted to reforming the research funding system based on performance, Ukraine’s participation in the Horizon Europe Programme, the development of open science, researcher mobility, and strengthening cooperation between universities, research institutions, business, and government.

During the forum, participants learned about recent developments in state policy on science and innovation, new mechanisms for supporting research, the development of the National Researcher System, research assessment tools, and prospects for expanding international cooperation. Separate sessions focused on innovation ecosystems, technology transfer, support for start-ups, the development of science parks, and opportunities for attracting European funding for research and innovation.

As part of the information session “European Cooperation through Erasmus+: Projects, Mobility, Partnerships”, Zhanna TALANOVA, Deputy Coordinator and Analytical Manager of the National Erasmus+ Office – Ukraine, Coordinator of the Higher Education Reform Experts (HERE team), presented the opportunities offered by the EU Erasmus+ Programme for higher education institutions and research organisations.

The presentation emphasised that Erasmus+ is not only an education programme but also an important instrument for supporting research and international academic cooperation. It demonstrated how Erasmus+ projects contribute to the modernisation of study programmes, the development of research, the creation of research outputs, and the strengthening of the institutional capacity of universities and research organisations.

Participants were introduced to opportunities for international and virtual mobility, particularly for doctoral candidates, Capacity Building in Higher Education projects, the Jean Monnet actions, and Erasmus Mundus calls for the development of Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Programmes and international educational consortia.

Particular attention was paid to the strategic importance of participation in Erasmus+ for the state attestation of research institutions, the accreditation of study programmes, and the formula-based funding of higher education institutions. Practical recommendations were also provided on preparing project proposals, identifying international partners, using the Concept Note and Partner Identification Form (PIF) tools, and preparing for the next Erasmus+ call cycle.

Forum participants highlighted the importance of professionalising research management and expanding the participation of Ukrainian education and research institutions in international programmes and projects as one of the key instruments for Ukraine’s integration into the European Research Area and the European Education Area.
