Results of the first two years of the EU-funded Jean Monnet Project “University Courses in European Economic Integration” implemented by Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv

Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv has been implementing the EU-funded Jean Monnet Chair Project “University Courses in European Economic Integration” since September 2013. The project is implemented by Professor O. Shnyrkov, the Head of the Chair of World Economy and International Economic Relations of Institute of International Relations.

The main component of the projects is teaching regular and extramural students of the University and its summer school, and civil servants of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The project courses and modules include Competition Policy of the EU, The EU Regulation of International Economic Relations, The EU Regulation of International Economic Relations, The EU Regulation of International Economic Relations, The EU in the World Economy, Foreign Trade Regulation in the EU, and The EU in the World Economy. The teaching results has also been exploited by the Chairholder within additional lectures and seminars for students and employees of the Institute and in other institutions (Ukrainian Academy of Banking of the National Bank of Ukraine, National Academy of Public Administration under the Office of the President of Ukraine, Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Retraining center for managers and specialists of the State Employment Service of Institute for Training Staff of the State Employment Service of Ukraine, and Association “Znannya” of Ukraine).

The Project supports efforts of the University to improve teaching the EU studies. In 2015 Institute of International Relations renewed its bachelor and master study programs, including “Economics of European Integration”. The Chairholder has published several project deliverables, including “Competition Policy of the EU: Collection of Lectures”, chapters in the practical guide “International Economic Relations: Practical Guide” and monograph “Free Trade Areas at the Beginning of XXI Century”, 8 syllabi, and a leaflet “Bachelor and Master Programs “Economics of European Integration””.
O. Shnyrkov continues its research within the topic “Establishment of Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area between the EU and Ukraine”, and has published a number of articles and research reports. The Chairholder has also exploited his research experience by supervising, reviewing and discussing PhD theses devoted to European integration, holding a specialized scientific conference, editing monographs about economic integration, participation in several domestic and foreign conferences.
The Charholder took part in several initiatives of the academic public, such as open lectures about Association between the EU and Ukraine in the Institute, Ukrainian student competition in International Economics, idea of declaring Jeaques Delore a European Citizen of Honour by the European Council, support of the appeal of Ukrainian Association of European Studies to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine about expertise for implementation of the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine, proposal that Institute of International Relation of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Ukrainian Association of International Economics should take part in establishment of the Civil society platform EU-Ukraine.
