EACEA publishes new Youth Wiki report on housing affordability for young people in Europe
On March 30, 2026, the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) published the new Youth Wiki Report “Housing affordability for young people in Europe – comparative overview”, dedicated to analysing housing affordability challenges faced by young people across European countries.
The report provides a comparative overview of policies, challenges, and approaches related to affordable housing for young people in Europe. It addresses issues such as housing affordability, rental markets, support for young people transitioning to independent living, and the impact of socio-economic factors on youth housing opportunities.
According to the publication, young people across Europe increasingly face difficulties in accessing affordable housing due to rising rental costs, shortages of affordable housing stock, economic instability, and changing labour market conditions. Particular attention is given to vulnerable groups, students, young workers, and young people living in major urban areas.
The report also analyses public support mechanisms for young people, including housing subsidies, social housing, rental support schemes, financial instruments, and policies aimed at strengthening youth housing autonomy. Special emphasis is placed on the role of youth policy and cross-sectoral cooperation in addressing youth housing challenges.
Youth Wiki is an online platform of the European Commission providing information on national youth policies across Europe and supporting the exchange of experience and good practices in the field of youth policy.
