On January 18, 2023, a meeting “Jean Monnet Projects for Technical Majors: Challenges and Prospects” was held online on the Zoom platform. The event was organized by the Department of Transport Systems and Logistics of O.M.Beketov National University of Urban Economy in Kharkiv (O.M. Beketov NUUEKh) with the support of the National Erasmus + office in Ukraine in close cooperation with the Kharkiv City Council, the company «PRO MOBILITY», “VIASYSTEMPRO”, LLC, Educational and Scientific Centre “European studies for technical universities” of Lviv Polytechnic National University, Sumy National Agrarian University.

The event was attended by 63 participants from 11 cities of Ukraine (Kharkiv, Kyiv, Lviv, Sumy, Odesa, Lutsk, Zaporizhzhia, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Ternopil, Cherkasy): scientists, teachers, graduate students, students, representatives of business, and non-governmental organizations.

In a welcome speech, Maria Osinska, Director of the International Department, welcomed participants and stressed on the importance of European projects for educators, emphasizing that the implementation of international projects such as Jean Monnet is a significant lever that attracts applicants, especially for universities in the eastern part of Ukraine, and the universities themselves can get the best teaching staff.

Ihor Biletskyi, Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Energy, Information and Transport Infrastructure, O.M. Beketov NUUEKh, focused on the expanded worldview and professional growth of students participating in Erasmus+ projects.

Yevhen Kush, Head of the Department of Transport Systems and Logistics, O.M. Beketov NUUEKh, provided information about the department’s international activities, and emphasized its importance and influence on the training of future specialists and the development of educational programmes. He also added that knowledge in the field of sustainable mobility is important for the further reconstruction of Ukrainian cities.

Petro Krainik, Project Manager, Jean Monnet Actions, Erasmus+ National Office in Ukraine, showed the importance of Jean Monnet projects for technical specialities. Since students are not directly involved in the study of European studies, it is important for them not only to have experience in their field, but also to gain knowledge about the values, cultural environment, and standards in force in the European Union. In addition, such projects make it possible to work with a very wide audience, to attract many target groups.

Maria Olkhova, associate professor of the department of transport systems and logistics, project coordinator, provided a detailed description of the project ” Sustainable Urban Transport Policy in EU” in her presentation.

In addition, Dmytro Bespalov, Director of the company “Pro Mobility”, took part in the event, emphasizing that the key to sustainable transport development is a proven approach to transport planning. Knowing the tools of transport simulation, students have an opportunity to work in the global market.

The speakers focused on such topical issues as an experience of project implementation, Jean Monnet projects for technical specialties, and finding approaches to international cooperation.
